The Health Benefits of a Regular Massage

A regular massage is widely accepted as one of the best ways to relax and recover from the stresses of daily life. One of the main reasons massage continues to grow in popularity is because it not only benefits the body, but the mind as well.

Physical Benefits of Regular Massage

Stress and anxiety can produce some rather profound physical symptoms. One of the first symptoms to appear is muscle tension. And because stress is most often a chronic condition, your muscles are tense all the time — this leads to aches, pains and limited mobility, all of which have a negative effect on the mind. Stress can also lead to headaches, fatigue, upset stomach and loss of appetite, among other problems.

Regular massage by a qualified massage therapist not only reduces these symptoms, but can even preempt future symptoms, mitigating the body’s typical reaction to new stress. By allowing yourself regular weekly or monthly massages, the tension throughout your muscles is relaxed away, causing a cascade of health benefits from the physical to the mental and emotional.

  • eases muscle tension
  • relieves aches and pains
  • can improve circulation
  • can improve blood pressure

Mental Benefits of Regular Massage

Even more fascinating are the benefits of regular massage on the mind. Not only does a relaxed body lead to a more relaxed mental state, but the experience of receiving a massage itself allows you to unplug from your daily life and focus on yourself.

Scented candles, calming music and relaxed lighting provide the ideal environment, and the soothing hands of a practiced massage therapist allow your mind to unwind and set aside concerns, worries and troubles. Allowing yourself brief interludes such as this amongst the hustle and bustle of your busy life gives your mind a chance to recover in amazing ways. And the benefits are carried forward, helping you react to future stress with a calmer, more measures approach.

  • calms the mind
  • soothes emotions
  • improves mood
  • can reduce anxiety

It’s no secret that regular massage provides a number of physical, mental and emotional benefits. But the true beauty of the practice lies in that one specific word, regular.

By receiving massage on a consistent basis, you’re able to achieve a more long-term goal that everyone is striving for — a better quality of life. It’s no wonder spa services like massage continue to grow in popularity!

The Importance of Regular Sports Massage for Active Lifestyles

The Importance of Regular Sports Massage for Active Lifestyles

From young athletes to energetic seniors, active people can benefit greatly from regular sports massage. A more active lifestyle is certainly healthier for both mind and body, but it also leads to sore, stiff muscles and more stress on your joints, making your approach to rest and recovery even more important.

What is Sports Massage?

Sports massage involves specific focus on the muscle groups you use most often according to your activity. Footballers engage different muscle groups than weightlifters, for example, necessitating special attention to different areas of the body. With the right massage therapist experienced in sports massage, you can describe any issues you may be having and they can recommend various approaches designed to help maximize your relaxation and recovery. Additionally, most everyone has that one problem area or old sports injury that could benefit from some extra care, and a knowledgeable massage therapist can take those issues into consideration when customizing your massage.

The Benefits of Regular Sports Massage

Similar to regular massage, regular sports massage provides a number of physical and psychological benefits. Studies have shown that massage is one of the most highly effective post-workout treatments for delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS) and perceived fatigue, as well as inflammation — all very important concerns for athletes and those engaged in an active lifestyle. Benefits include: • improved flexibility • improved range of motion in the joints • decreased muscle spasms • greater sense of relaxation • calmer, more contented mood Mountains of anecdotal evidence from sports massage recipients all over the world also suggest fewer instances of injury and shorter recovery times between workouts, making an even stronger case for you to give regular sports massage a try.

What to Look for in a Sports Massage Therapist

The effectiveness of your massage hinges on finding the right massage therapist. In addition to the proper credentials and experience, you want to find one who is receptive to your concerns and open to discussing your goals. By finding a massage therapist you enjoy talking to, who makes you feel that you’re being heard, you give yourself the opportunity to fully enjoy the experience and receive all its amazing benefits.

Vanessa and the rest of our massage therapy team exemplify these wonderful traits, which is what makes Wellness4Ever the ideal salon for your next sports massage! For more informational blogs, as well as exclusive discounts and other perks, be sure to sign up for our newsletter!

What is Foot Reflexology Massage?

Believed to have originated in ancient Egypt and China, reflexology is a form of massage that focuses on engaging areas of the foot to elicit certain health responses from the body.

Similar to acupuncture treatment’s use of meridians and the flow of qi (pronounced chee), foot reflexology features various zones of each foot and how they correspond to various organs throughout the body. In fact, reflexology was once referred to as “zone therapy” for this very reason. Pressure applied to these zones is thought to provide relief for a wide variety of ailments and conditions.

Unlike acupuncture, however, foot reflexology massage is completely noninvasive, with no tools required — only the knowledge and experience of a practiced reflexologist.

How Foot Reflexology Massage Works

Far more than a simple foot rub, foot reflexology involves the massage and application of pressure to various reflex points found throughout the foot. Certified reflexologists study the various zones of the foot and how to apply pressure to engage the healing desired.

For instance, zones like the toes are believed to relate to the sinuses. The heel contains a zone tied to the sciatic nerve. And the sole and plantar region contain a number of zones related to various internal organs.

Benefits of Foot Reflexology Massage

Benefits reported by recipients of foot reflexology are wide-ranging, running the gamut between the physical and psychological — everything from improved relaxation and sleep to better circulation, blood pressure, relief from mood disorders and so much more. Benefits reported include:

  • improved relaxation
  • higher quality sleep
  • relief from aches and pains
  • relief from foot cramping
  • improved blood pressure and circulation
  • relief from edema
  • relief from restless leg syndrome
  • improved moods
  • improved sense of well-being

While foot reflexology isn’t meant to replace any particular treatment or therapy and works best as an addition to treatments specific to your ailments, its continued growth and popularity are clear signs of its efficacy — just be sure to clear it with your health professional first.

Similar to other forms of massage like foot reflexology, results depend on the individual. The most important aspect of any massage therapy is how you feel after receiving treatment, and many have found great relief from foot reflexology massage.

How Regular Massage Improves Sleep

How Regular Massage Improves Sleep

The digital age has made us more connected, with our phone and computer screens becoming our windows into what feels like a much smaller world. That’s great for communication and awareness, but this never-ending influx of information has its downsides.

We’re moving at a faster pace than ever before, doing our best to keep up with everything going on around us, and this inevitably leads to more stress. With the fear of missing out and the need to be as informed as possible at all times, we stretch ourselves too thin. And as most all of us can attest, more stress typically translates into less sleep.

We’ve all heard that a healthy diet, exercise and plenty of sleep are the best ways to reduce stress and have a happier, healthier life. But for some of us, good sleep is hard to come by. Whether because of aches and pains or a mind that won’t shut off, it seems no matter what we do, we spend our nights tossing and turning, unable to get the rest we so desperately need.

The Benefits of Regular Massage for Sleep

It’s a bit of a catch-22, isn’t it? You need restful sleep to reduce stress, but you need reduced stress to achieve restful sleep.

Like so many lifestyle improvements, the solution may involve incorporating a good habit. Many consider massage to be a special treat, an indulgence to be experienced once or twice a year. But what they fail to realize is that regular massage can have a destressing effect that improves every aspect of life.

Going back to our digital lifestyle, think of this — how many of your recreational, destressing activities don’t involve a screen? Between Netflix, video games and social media, your time spent relaxing may not be as relaxing as you think. You’re still being bombarded with information. You’re not giving yourself a chance to unplug.

Regular weekly or monthly massage gives you that chance. Letting your mind sit idle while soaking in the calming background music, the soft glow of candles, the soothing touch of an experienced massage therapist — this can help you destress your life and achieve better sleep.

Over time, this healthy habit can remove built-up stress, which allows you to sleep better, which helps you approach your day from a calmer, less reactive state — making you more resistant to future stress.

More and more people are finding that massage isn’t the luxury it was once considered to be. It’s a tool — one that can help you achieve a happier, healthier life.

Start your new healthy habit today.

How NuCalm Neuroacoustics Improve Massage

How NuCalm Neuroacoustics Improve Massage

One popular option for making the most of your massage session is the use of neuroacoustics like NuCalm, a patented software designed to help you relax and reenergize.

Based on clinically proven neuroscience, this fascinating neuroacoustics software delivers binaural beats and neurophysics-based sounds designed to engage the parasympathetic nervous system to slow the listener’s brain waves. Within minutes, the neuroacoustic sounds induce a deep sense of relaxation, making it a highly effective therapy to combine with massage.

Used by executives, professional sports teams, surgeons and even the US military, NuCalm has a number of therapies designed to relax, improve sleep, manage stress and boost your body’s recovery.

Safety and Efficacy of Neuroacoustics and NuCalm

The use of neuroacoustics is a remarkably safe, drug-free therapy with no side effects or contraindications reported. Even those who become claustrophobic with sleep masks or dark glasses can go without these options and still benefit. And with no adverse interactions with prescription medication, neuroacoustics can be enjoyed by virtually everyone.

Other relaxation apps can take anywhere from 15 minutes to two hours to take effect, due to the fact that they’re only effective after the brain has naturally slowed down. One of NuCalm’s most noteworthy attributes is its ability to consistently slow down brain waves within minutes, regardless of circumstances or physiology, due to their unique biosignal processing disc and the targeted algorithms of their software.

Your Neuroacoustic Massage

Your neuroacoustic massage experience begins with a small biosignal processing disc placed on your wrist. This disc instructs the body to release GABA, a natural neurotransmitter that counteracts the stress hormones adrenaline and cortisol.

Next, you have the option of a sleep mask or dark glasses, which help your brain focus on the neuroacoustics. Once your headphones are comfortably in place, you’re ready to experience the deep relaxation of a neuroacoustic massage.

Between the physical sensations of a soothing massage that melts the tension and soreness from your muscles and the calming tones of the neuroacoustics, this profoundly effective therapy can transform your entire state of mind, leaving you feeling stress-free and reenergized, ready to take on the demands of your day.

Top 3 Benefits of Candle Massage

Top 3 Benefits of Candle Massage

Candle massage is a popular therapy for those wishing to immerse more of their senses into their massage. The delightful aromas, the warmth of the essential oils, the entire experience can offer a deeper, more profound relaxation than massage alone.

Let’s find out why by taking a look at three of the most popular benefits of candle massage.

Reduces Stress

The fact that candle massage can reduce stress may come as no surprise, but the aromatherapy effects intrinsic to it have been shown to reduce anxiety, making it an even more effective massage therapy for many.

Part of effective massage is more than just calming your mind, but transporting it to a calmer place. Given how strongly scent is tied to emotion and memory, it’s no wonder candle massage is so popular. By evoking a fond memory or inducing a particular emotion, your mind gains additional reprieve from the daily stresses of your life, making candle massage a highly effective stress-reduction therapy.

Relieves Aches & Pains

Another benefit that is rather expected of massage, the use of essential-oil infused candles adds a wonderful dimension that many find to be more effective at pain relief than typical massage alone.

The warmth of the essential oils is often reported to provide additional comfort to aching joints and sore muscles, which can lead to improved circulation and range of motion. And with the added benefit of hydrating the skin, recipients feel even more refreshed and energized.

Many also report that regular candle massage compounds these amazing benefits, providing a long-term pain-management therapy option that can help sustain a more active lifestyle.

Improves Mood

Typically, the less stress we’re under, the better our moods. In addition to the stress-reduction benefits of candle massage, aromatherapy massage has also démontrébeen shown to improve Hospital Anxiety and Depression (HAD) Scale results, further indicating its ability to improve overall quality of life.

Candle massage in particular is a great example of how massage therapy can be more than an effective treatment for stress relief and physical pain reduction. With the right candles, soothing aromas, relaxing background music and experienced massage therapist, your massage can be an experience to remember.

The Top 3 Benefits of Ayurvedic Massage

The Top 3 Benefits of Ayurvedic Massage

Steeped in thousands of years of Indian healing techniques and principles, Ayurvedic Massage is known to be a highly effective massage therapy — not just all over the world, but all throughout history itself.

But what are the actual, real-world benefits of Ayurvedic Massage? Here, we take a look at three of the most compelling reasons why you should schedule yours today!

Can Reduce Stress

A popular type of Ayurvedic Massage, Abhyanga Massage is an enveloping, rhythmic therapy that’s quite energetic. Using oils selected for the unique state of your doshas, this head-to-toe massage improves circulation while helping to eliminate toxins.

A pilot study has shown that Abhyanga Massage provides significant reductions in subjective stress experience. It can also lower heart rate, and it even showed a reduction in blood pressure for those with prehypertension. Studies like this one echo what countless recipients have discovered for themselves for generations.

Can Reduce Chronic Low Back Pain

One of the most common types of chronic pain occurs in the lower back, and relief can be difficult to find. Many sufferers don’t relish the thought of taking pain medications, and surgery can be a big decision that may not solve the cause of the pain. Ayurvedic Massage can be a reliable source of pain relief that doesn’t involve the potential side effects and risks of medication or surgery.

One clinical trial found Ayurvedic Massage to be an effective short-term pain-relief therapy, making a strong argument for regular sessions to help provide some respite for those with chronic low back pain.

Can Alleviate Osteoarthritis

Another common condition, osteoarthritis affects millions of people all over the world. Joint cartilage regeneration techniques are still in their infancy, making osteoarthritis a condition that most everyone has no choice but to live with. Yet certain therapies have been found useful in relieving pain and managing the condition, including Ayurvedic Massage.

One randomized, controlled trial found Ayurvedic Massage to be part of a beneficial treatment for reducing knee osteoarthritis, indicating an effective alternative or adjunct to traditional medications, surgeries and other treatments.

Thousands of years of practice coupled with the evidence of modern science strongly suggests that Ayurvedic Massage is an effective treatment for a wide range of issues and conditions. All that remains is for you to find out for yourself.

The Top 3 Benefits of Face Massage

The Top 3 Benefits of Face Massage

You’ve no doubt heard of facials — the skin treatment that exfoliates and cleanses pores via a custom mask — but not all are familiar with the benefits of face massage.

This invigorating therapy is a popular option for those looking for an effective addition to their skin care regimen. Let’s have a look at the three most prominent benefits of face massage and find out why it’s such a favorite.

Reduced Fine Lines & Wrinkles

Common issues like stress, fatigue and poor sleep can cause a great deal of tension in your face. This can lead to more prominent fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes, nose and mouth. Stimulating the muscles beneath the skin and engaging certain pressure points can relax this built-up tension, easing the appearance of wrinkles and giving you a more relaxed, youthful look. And for those who enjoy the benefits of Botox treatments, Face Massage is an amazing supplemental therapy you’ll be glad you added to your skin care regimen!

Rejuvenated Skin

A refreshing Face Massage stimulates the skin, improving circulation and giving you a healthy glow — ideal for those who haven’t gotten enough sleep and need a quick way to achieve a fresh, well-rested look. Recipients also report tightening of the skin and reduced skin sagging. Just like the muscles of the body, the muscles of the face can benefit greatly from a proper massage as well. And with 43 muscles throughout your beautiful countenance, it’s time you showed them some love!

Improved Blood Flow

Recipients of regular Face Massage have also reported a reduction in the appearance of acne and blemishes, providing a smoother skin tone with reduced inflammation. It is believed this result can be attributed to increased blood flow. The face contains a vast and intricate network of capillaries, and improved blood flow can aid in the removal of accumulated toxins.

And a fourth bonus benefit to Face Massage — how it makes you feel! Walking out of Wellness4Ever with glowing, rejuvenated skin makes you feel as good as you look. And for those looking for longer-lasting benefits designed to have you looking and feeling your best all year round, ask about our Six Week + Monthly Maintenance package!

The Top 3 Benefits of Prenatal Massage

The Top 3 Benefits of Prenatal Massage

If anyone could benefit from a nice, relaxing massage, it’s expectant mothers. Between the aches and pains, heightened stress and numerous other issues that go along with pregnancy, they need every treatment they can get to help ensure the health and well-being of themselves and their baby. So let’s have a look at a few of the top benefits of Prenatal Massage and find out why they’re so effective.

Reduced Muscle & Joint Pain

An incredibly common issue during pregnancy, muscle aches and joint pain can become a constant, especially in the third trimester. This ever-present concern makes every aspect of your day more difficult, having a negative impact on your work, relationships and sleep.

Prenatal Massage focuses on the gentle relief of your worst trouble areas, as well as an overall relaxation of your body, to remove all your built-up tension and allow your mind to ease into a more tranquil state. Putting your busy life on hold for a time to get away and focus on you and your baby can have profound effects on your mobility, mood and more.

Reduced Stress

Heightened stress is a virtually universal issue for expectant mothers. Adding the stress of pregnancy to a likely already stressful life can put you under tremendous strain. And with limited exercise, powerful food cravings and troubled sleep, your traditional means of destressing are greatly reduced, if not removed altogether.

Similar to the reduction in muscle and joint pain, Prenatal Massage has the same effect on your stress levels. And similar to regular massage, it can help regulate blood pressure — allowing the body to relax and let go. Some time away for a little pampering melts the stress away like nothing else can, leaving you all the more prepared for tomorrow’s challenges.

Improved Sleep

As with so many health concerns, many of them are interconnected. You’re in pain, so you can’t sleep. The pain and lack of sleep cause more stress. More stress leads to worse sleep and more aches. On and on in vicious little circles.

But with Prenatal Massage — especially at regular intervals — relief is cyclical too. Reducing pain can lead to improved sleep, which can reduce stress. Reduced stress can lead to even better sleep and even less pain. Maybe interconnected health issues aren’t so bad after all!

Every expectant mother could use some extra TLC. Book your session with Wellness4Ever now!

What is Abhyanga Massage?

What is Abhyanga Massage?

One of the most popular massages in the ancient Ayurveda tradition originating in India, Abhyanga Massage focuses on the balancing of the doshas using warm, herb-infused oils. Practiced for thousands of years, this massage therapy has been reported to provide a variety of benefits centered around realigning the body’s energies.

The Doshas

Ayurvedic tradition holds that the universe contains five elements — earth, air, fire, water and ether. Our bodies are composed of these elements, which are expressed through the three doshas — Vata, Pitta and Kapha.

  • Vata: fire and ether
  • Pitta: fire and water
  • Kapha: water and air

Everyone has a different mixture of doshas, and when they’re out of alignment, one or more are considered dominant. Abhyanga Massage focuses on pacifying the dominant dosha(s).

Additionally, each dosha has specific characteristics. Vata is dry, light and cold; Pitta is oily, sharp and hot; and Kapha is heavy, slow and cold, among several other respective attributes. When the doshas are out of balance, the imbalance manifests symptoms that reflect the dominant dosha(s).

For example, nervousness, restless sleep and excessive worry indicate a dominate Vata. Skin conditions, acid reflux and irritability indicate a dominate Pitta. And lethargy, an aversion to change and excessive eating indicate a dominate Kapha.

Typically, any discomfort or issue that lasts more than a few weeks could likely indicate an imbalance in your doshas. A skilled Abhyanga massage therapist can help root out the cause and bring your doshas back into alignment.

Your Abhyanga Massage Therapist

Abhyanga massage therapists are trained to recognize these imbalances and prepare dosha-specific oils customized to the individual, helping to bring the doshas back into harmony and alleviate symptoms.

Once prepared, your massage therapist applies the oil and provides an invigorating, rhythmic head-to-toe massage — from your scalp all the way to the soles of your feet. The combination of the oil and massage has the added benefits of aiding in the elimination of toxins and the improvement of circulation.

The warm oil, calming environment and practiced hands of your massage therapist make for a wonderfully transcendental experience designed to melt away stress, soothe your muscles and return your body’s energies to equilibrium — leaving you supremely relaxed, wonderfully refreshed and in a far more tranquil state of mind.

How One-Hour Relaxing Massage Comforts Your Body

How One-Hour Relaxing Massage Comforts Your Body

One-hour relaxing massage offers a wide variety of benefits for nearly everyone. Regardless of age, gender or physical fitness, relaxing massage helps treat universal issues we all experience.

Whether you have too much stress, suffer from aches and pains, or find yourself in need of a boost to your mental health, a one-hour relaxing massage can help. Due to the incredible connection between body and mind, comforting your body often brings surprising comfort to thoughts and emotions as well.

Relaxing Massage for Reducing Stress

More than ever before, stress is a major factor in most all of our lives. With the 24-hour news cycle, our always-connected online presence and especially the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, it’s no wonder Europe’s average life satisfaction is at  its lowest level since 1980..

The key to our one-hour relaxing massage isn’t just the massage itself, but the duration — imagine an entire hour unplugged from the rest of the world. No phone or computer screen in your face, no calls or texts, no worries beyond the soothing hands of your massage therapist, the subtle aroma of candles and the tranquil melodies floating from nearby speakers.

Within minutes, you’re transported from your mental and emotional stressors and embracing a calming massage that melts the tension from your body — tension so ingrained that you didn’t even realize it was there. And now it’s gone, leaving you with a deep sense of comfort you haven’t felt in ages.

That’s the magic of a one-hour relaxing massage.

Relaxing Massage for Pain Relief

In addition to the profound relaxation your one-hour massage provides, it can also ease the everyday aches and pains that have you feeling less than your best. As ubiquitous as your stress, body pain saps your energy and your mood, affecting your work, recreation and relationships.

The one-hour relaxing massage can ease your joints and muscles, and improve circulation. Combined with your massage’s powerful destressing effects, your entire body achieves a more comforted, pain-reduced state that can last hours and even days.

Regular Relaxing Massage for Ultimate Comfort

One of the best and most widely reported features of massage is its cumulative effects. Many recipients report that regular weekly or monthly massages provide the above benefits on a long-term scale — to the point that it changes how your body and mind react to new stressors.

Regular massage can equip you with the ability to better handle future stressors — and that’s the most profound comfort of all.
